Baba Siddiqui: The man who bridged the rift between Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan; he fostered ties between politicians and film stars at his Iftar parties

The killing of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former Maharashtra MLA-turned-minister Baba Ziauddin Siddiqui has shocked not only the people of the state and those associated with his party but also leaders and workers of rival outfits. He was shot dead by three assailants in Bandra East on Saturday evening when he was getting into his car after leaving his son's office. The Mumbai police have now confirmed the involvement of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who is the prime accused in the 2022 murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, in Siddiqui's murder. Incidentally, Siddiqui's murder comes six months after members of the Bishnoi gang opened fire at Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's house in Mumbai.
Given Siddiqui's connections with B-town superstars, especially Salman, the police are now investigating possible links between these incidents. Siddiqui, a three-time MLA and former Maharashtra minister of state for food and civil supplies, shared a strong bond with veteran Congress leader and actor-director Sunil Dutt during the early days of his career. While this connection played a key role in securing him the MLA candidature, it also helped him gain foothold in Bombay's film circles. Along with moving ahead politically, Siddiqui also gained fame by hosting lavish Iftaar parties attended by Bollywood bigwigs. From Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan to Sunil Dutt's son Sanjay Dutt and Shilpa Shetty, his parties were attended by many A-listers and prominent politicians, which also led to increased interactions between the two groups.
The influence of Siddiqui and his parties on these celebrities became evident to all in 2013 when he played the role of mediator in ending the five-year feud between Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, as the politician paved the way for the two to hug each other and make up at his Iftar party at a five-star hotel in Mumbai. Shah Rukh and Salman had never spoken to each other since their 2008 fight at Katrina Kaif's birthday party.
at the 2013 Iftar party Siddiqui had arranged for Shah Rukh to sit next to Salman's father and legendary screenwriter Salim Khan. This setup led to a heartwarming moment where Salman patted Shah Rukh on the shoulder and the two soon embraced, effectively ending one of Bollywood's most talked about rivalries. Baba Siddiqui stood in the middle of this reconciliation. India Today quoted the politician as saying, "They both wanted the same thing... Allah shows the way. I had no role to play." Thus he maintained his image of humility.
